Triathlon Australia is currently reviewing several race competition rules including the use of speed suits. Amendments will not be confirmed until early next year; the ruling will be updated following the review. All competitors planning on racing at Sydney should clarify this ruling prior to race day.
Existing Speed Suit Ruling:
Speed suits are permitted for age group competitors ONLY. In the interests of athlete safety, these suits can be removed after the swim providing there is no breach of nudity rules and the torso is covered prior to removing the bike from the rack.
Elite and Open Age Group competitors are NOT PERMITTED to wear speed suits.
Competitors are to keep the swim start area clear. Swim warm-up if required must take place behind the start line or off to the right of the swim course. It is a deep water start. All competitors to be at the swim marshalling area prior to 15mins from their wave start. You must follow the swim buoys precisely. Any short cuts will result in disqualification. Follow all directions of surf lifesaving officials. Ensure timing band is firmly secured on your LEFT ANKLE.
CUT OFF TIMES: All swimmers will be able to complete the swim course.
TEAM COMPETITORS: Any team cyclists remaining in transition after a certain time will be instructed to commence the cycle leg. All team swimmers will be able to finish the swim and make their way to the Teams Transition Area and hand the timing band to the team runner. All swimmers and runners will receive accurate timing splits.
To ensure a fair race for all competitors you must rack your bike in your correct signed age group rack.
NO DRAFTING - experienced Technical Officials will be on the course and penalty boxes will be in use.
Timing is executed at the run exit.
Competitor’s upper torso must be covered at all times.
Police are on the course and all road rules must be obeyed at all times (eg. Crossing double white lines) - they will book anyone breaking the law. Follow police directions at all times.
Ensure that you use the aid stations to rehydrate.
WARNING - IF YOU DO NOT USE AID STATIONS AND CONTINUE TO RUN WHEN DEHYDRATED AND OVERHEATED, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH.
CUT OFF TIMES: Time TBA. Runners still on the course will be advised to move onto the footpath. You will not receive an official race time.
If you feel you cannot meet this criteria, please contact us on (07) 3868 2444 to discuss.
A team swimmer must not remove the timing band until within the transition area.
The team cyclists must remain in their position in transition with their bike racked until the swimmer has tagged the cyclist. The swimmer needs to pass the timing band onto the cyclist.
Once returned to transition the team cyclist must rack their bike before the runner can leave on the run leg. Team runners must wait in the team cyclist’s bike rack position. Remember to take the timing band off the cyclist before exiting transition.
